Somehow we’ve come to describe Christians primarily on the basis of what they believe. We’re passionate about “orthodoxy”—right belief. We even describe Christians with the term “believers” as if the essence of Christianity is mental agreement to certain truths. However, equally important is “orthopraxis”—right practice. There is no passage in the Bible that more succinctly describes the character traits of a follower of Jesus than the “fruit of the Spirit” which the Apostle Paul lists in his letter to the Galatians. Nine key words describe these essential traits of a mature Christian. We will explore each putting flesh on these nine traits by observing them in the life of Jesus. We will be challenged to put these traits into practice in our daily lives and practices.
